Student Council Boosts School Spirit
Freezing winter temperatures and familiar routines tend to chill school spirit, but there is a student organization dedicated to heating up the excitement index for school life. Geary High School's Student Council plans and leads a variety of activities that boost school spirit and increase excitement for school. Members are in charge of all assemblies, including the Veterans' Day program and pep rallies. They most recently planned the beach theme pep assembly to kick off the start of wrestling and basketball seasons. Members plan spirit days, decorate the hallways, maintain the school's hall calendar of upcoming events, write the weekly "Inside Bison Pride" column for the Geary Star, and make morning announcements, including word of the week. They are in charge of Homecoming activities, help organize Senior Nights for athletes, collect donations for worthwhile causes, purchase after prom gifts, and plan events for Teacher Appreciation week in May. Sponsor Shana Glasgow remarked, "Basically, we look for ways to help make our school a great place for students and staff to be." Eight STUCO members recently attended the Oklahoma Student Council Convention, and several are interested in attending OASC BASIC this summer to learn more about being a great leader.
Students in Mrs. Glasgow's Leadership Class and Student Council are: Katie Baker, Jaycie Bates, Jose Briseno, Molly Cox, Aivrie Drumm, Camryia Ewing, Max Glasgow, Gabe Kiener, Jacee Lewis, Lea Leyva, Julissa Martinez, Cassidy Moore, and Valeria Perez,
