Launch the media gallery 1 player - media #3GHS seniors Cailyn Brown and Alyssa Sweezy have taken an art class every year since 7th grade, and their hard work paid off! The girls were excited to learn that they passed the extremely rigorous studio portfolio standards of the College Board's Advanced Placement program for the 2013-14 school year.
The AP program requires student artists to create 24 works of art in one school year that exemplify mastery of concept and technical skill. Twelve of the 24 pieces are required to have a common theme or concentration in which students explore a unique skill or topic. The remainder of the art work must demonstrate a student's wide variety of art skills, whether traditional or digital.
Cailyn created a jewelry line as her concentration portion of the portfolio, and Alyssa chose the cycle of life theme perspective in her art. Cailyn and Alyssa also participated along with other GHS art students in a mentoring program with Artspace at Untitled in which the two worked on their print making skills to enhance their AP portfolio.
Cailyn and Alyssa proved that they have what it takes to impress the judges of the AP program and pass the portfolio exam. The students received encouragement and support from their art teacher, Rachel Adams.
