Danny Blackshear MS-HS Teacher of the Year
Veteran math teacher Danny Blackshear was voted "Teacher of the Year" by his peers at Geary MS-HS. Although this is his first year on the faculty, Mr. Blackshear has a wealth of teaching experience in the Oklahoma City area where he taught math for 25 years in the Putman City School System and 2 years for the Oklahoma City Schools. Mr. Blackshear is a native of North Dakota. While in college he joined the Navy, and upon completion of active duty, he enrolled at Oklahoma State University where he earned a B.S. in Secondary Education with a math emphasis. Mr. Blackshear has earned a number of coaching and officiating awards. He was 2001 Region 8 Cross Country Coach of the Year. He received the Oklahoma Wrestling Coaches' Association Official of the Year award for 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2019. In 2015, he was USA Wrestling's National Coach of the Year. In 2020 he won the Golden Whistle award for the Pan American Olympic Qualifying Trials for wrestling. When not teaching or officiating, Mr. Blackshear said he enjoys fishing. Mr. Blackshear commented, "I love the atmosphere here. I've had zero discipline problems."
