Class of 2020 Faces Future with Optimism
The 2020 graduating class of Geary High School finished an unprecedented senior year that ended early with schools nationwide closing in March and families sheltering in place due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Uncertainty has marked the lives of these students. They were after all the first class born after Sept. 11, 2001. They entered first grade at the beginning of the Great Recession, and they completed their senior year as distance learning students from home. Although a traditional graduation ceremony at the Field House was out of question due to social distancing requirements, the Geary School District held a meaningful outdoor ceremony at the football stadium with family and friends invited to sit on the field at safe distances apart. Technology made the event even more accessible by live streaming the ceremony and even an aerial view of the graduation via a drone operated by Technology student Connor Bernhardt. Congratulations to members of the Geary High School Class of 2020 !
