Due to the dangers of a student peeking around the glasses to view the solar eclipse, we are not viewing the eclipse together and will not allow young students outside at that time. There are just too many students to make sure they don't peek and the damage to their vision can be devastating.
Fortunately, the event will be streamed by Nasa, so we will watch it on the Smart Boards in our classrooms!

If you decide to take your child out of school to watch it (or if you are watching it yourself!), you must make sure that you and your child have glasses that are both from an approved manufacturer and have an ISO icon with reference 12312-2. Find a list of approved manufacturers here:https://eclipse.aas.org/resources/solar-filters
Please check your glasses against the list.

Also, make sure your child understands the seriousness of keeping those glasses on and looking away from the sun before taking them off.
You can find more information about viewing the eclipse safely here: https://www.nps.gov/articles/eclipsesafety.htm (Note: We are not in the path of totality, so it will NEVER be safe to remove the glasses to look at the eclipse in our area.)

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding! We all want to keep these children safe, and the consequences of any students ignoring instructions is just too horrible to consider.

Class rules:

Always do your best work! You are capable of learning a LOT! You will have a great year if you always try to do your best work. When you are not doing your best, you will be asked to try again.

Work as a team!  If your classmate is hurt, you see someone being bullied, or you see something that isn't safe, let me know right away! If you see someone who is not following directions, and I am busy at the teacher table, try to help them yourself. Remind them kindly of what they should be doing.

Follow directions quickly! When everyone follows directions as soon as they have them, class will not be boring. When we have to take extra time to repeat directions or check on students who aren't listening, class can seem long. We want to have plenty of time for read-alouds and activities, so make sure you are doing your part!

Make smart choices! Be safe and kind.

Please check us out on Class Dojo! You can see updates, message me, and see how your child is behaving.
