I have taught for over 30 years in Weatherford,El Reno and Oklahoma City. I began teaching in 1989  as a Jr. High Science teacher and throughout the years have taught all grade levels and subjects from Pre-K through ninth grade. I was an elementary school counselor for many years in El Reno and before coming to Geary, I transferred to Oklahoma City Public Schools  as a reading specialist in 2012.

In 2016 I came to Geary as  the reading specialist, district testing coordinator and part-time counselor.  I work with children that are in need of intervention or support with their reading. The Reading Sufficiency Act (RSA) law requires that we serve students needing support with their reading for grades K-3rd.  We also strive to support growth and success with reading for our 4th and 5th graders to prepare them for their future reading endeavors.

In the Reading Room, skills taught in the regular classroom are reinforced and skills students have not yet mastered are reviewed.  Lessons are designed to support learning and expand students' knowledge of language, words, and how they work. Children receive support in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.  I am in contact with the classroom teachers regularly to ensure we are meeting the learning needs of each student.  In addition, I regularly assess students to ensure they are reading books at their independent levels and instruction tailored to their needs.  It is my hope to promote and foster a lifelong love for reading and share my enthusiasm for literacy with students and their families.

I review student progress, test scores, and teacher recommendations to determine student eligibility for services. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

I look forward to a successful year working with you and your children!

Warmest Regards,
