Story and Photo by Kelcee Standlee
Marla O’Nesky is our new MS/HS Special Education Director. Ms. O'Nesky, who just recently turned the big 45, has been happily married to her husband Dean for 15 years. She has a son, Dalton, who at age 25 attends college and runs the family farm. She has lived in Thomas for the past 15 years, but she grew up in Oakwood and went to school in Taloga. Ms. O'Nesky went to college in Portales, NM, for a semester before coming back home. She went back to finish her degree after her son was born and graduated from SWOSU with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, as well as a Master's Degree in Psychometry and Educational Administration. She taught for a total of 15 years in Watonga, El Reno, and Clinton before coming to Geary. She said she feels "very blessed and grateful" to be the Special Education Director as well as Middle and High School special education teacher at Geary. She grew up in a small town and was very excited to get to teach in one. Mrs. O'Nesky said the students, parents, staff and the entire community have been wonderful and she looks forward to spending many years here.
Mrs. O'Nesky and her family enjoy traveling to different places and seeing new things. She has been to Mexico several times, the Bahamas, Jamaica, and several states from Florida to California. She also likes to hunt and fish. Her son taught her how to use a compound bow several years ago, and she has been hooked on bow hunting since then. She likes to try new things and has a bucket list of activities she wants to do and places she wants to see. Mrs. O'Nesky would love to visit Italy, Ireland, and Scotland. She wants to go hunting in Alaska, Canada and New Zealand. One adventure she would like is to go into a shark cage and see Jaws up close! She enjoys a good laugh, so if you walk by her room in the High School, expect to hear some loud laughter coming out!
