Elementary & Junior High Football News
by Coach Matt Kennedy
The Elementary and Junior High teams traveled to Yukon Monday, Sept. 17, to play Southwest Covenant. The Elementary played extremely well despite the 16-12 loss. In the first half the offense struggled with a few turnovers early on, but responded well by holding the SW Covenant offense to only 2 first downs. In the second half the Bison scored first with Sergio Pineda scoring a rushing touchdown. SW Covenant answered back with a touchdown of their own to tie the score 16-6. The offense got to rolling again with a few long runs by Kyle Harrall. Late in the game we came up short on a 4th down play which gave SW Covenant the ball with 20 seconds left. On the last play of the game SW Covenant scored off a pass play over the middle to which the Bison missed a few tackles. This ended the game 6-12 in SW Covenant's favor. It was a great effort by the Elementary and we saw much improvement.
The Junior High got off to a slow start, having trouble moving the ball effectively. SW Covenant, however, was connecting on all their offensive plays and headed into halftime with a 18-0 lead. In the second half we got a spark in the offense, led by 8th grader Marc Perez and Freshman Major Lewis. Defensively, 8th grader Kale Smith and Freshman Thad Hicks led the defense in tackles for the night. Marc Perez had the only Bison touchdown of the night on a 14 yard run, and Major Lewis followed the touchdown with a rushing 2 point conversion. Despite the 24-8 loss, the junior high team saw much improvement in the second half. Next week's game will be Monday, Sept. 24, at home against the Corn Bible Crusaders.
